Welding plays a very predominant role in the heavy manufacturing industry. It plays quite a significant and in influential role in the quality of products being manufactured out of raw materials such as iron, stainless steel, aluminum and many more. Welding as we speak of it is an art wherein two or more metal pieces are joined together with the help of a molten solution that forms the bond between them as it solidifies upon cooling. There is nothing more to the concept when it comes to theoretical aspects. However, practically speaking, it is an art that could be mastered only over practice. It takes years of training and exposure in order to become a professional welder and create quality welds.
Though the concept of welding is quite simple and straightforward, there are several techniques and procedure implied in the heavy manufacturing sites when it comes to welding. You make use of MIG welder, TIG welder, arc welding procedure, stick welding procedure etc to weld various metals and similar materials. It is imperative for the quality of the welds to be of the highest degree in order to ensure good quality end product and the welder has to be immensely experienced in order guarantee such quality welds.
On this note, the quality of the equipments you are bound to use for the welding is also highly imperative. You cannot rely upon poor quality equipments to create sturdy joints. You also ought to have a fair idea regarding what equipments are better suited to weld various different kinds of metals. On this note, when it comes to TIG welding, there are two kinds of TIG welders available in the market. You have water cooled TIG welder and air cooled TIG welders.
Air cooled TIG welder's uses a welding torch that makes sufficient use of air as a coolant. This avoids the welder from getting overheated while welding is done. Argon gas supports the air cooled TIG welder and these are sent through the piping of the torch. The mixture of gases is pressed through to relevant areas that require cooling. These welders give you that extra flexibility as they are highly maneuverable. However, these air cooled welders are suitable only for procedures operated at lower temperatures. Besides, they are not suitable for procedures that take longer durations to be completed. The simple reason being that air cannot withstand the excessive heat for longer durations caused due to higher electrical currents and sustained heat that builds over time.
Water cooled TIG welder on the other hand, allows for small torch head which is not possible as with the case of air cooled welders. These water cooled TIG welders can handle the toughest of TIG welding tasks. They can be operated for longer durations while the water coolant will sustain excessive heat produced due to longer durations. However, the water reservoir needs to be supplied with water on a regular basis to sustain longer duration welding tasks. They are also not easily maneuverable as the reservoir itself can hold up to 2 to 5 gallons of water which makes the entire system quite heavy and cumbersome to be moved with ease. Hence, you need to opt for this particular system only for stationary welding tasks. Hence, depending upon what you are welding and other criteria, choose your TIG welder carefully for welding efficiently.
